Google’s AlphaGo retires from competition after beating world number one 3 – 0

After soundly defeating Go prodigy and world number one player, Ke Jie, three games to zero at China’s ‘Future of Go’ summit, Google’s AlphaGo AI is retiring from competition. With nothing left to prove, Google’s AlphaGo team plans to use to the AI program to develop “advanced general algorithms” that can help scientists with issues like “finding new cures for diseases, dramatically reducing energy consumption, or inventing revolutionary new materials.”

Before leaving Go behind completely though, the team will publish one last paper later this year to reveal how they tweaked the AI to prepare it for the matches against Ke Jie.
