Xiaomi’s new Mi TV 3s 4K TVs are thin, smart, and support HDR

In addition to the new Mi 5s and Mi 5s Plus, Xiaomi has also introduced new Mi TV 3s flat 4K TV models, which come with a built-in deep learning AI system.

Available in 55-inch (RMB 3,499) and 65-inch (RMB 4,999) screen sizes, with a thickness of just 9.9mm, the new Mi TV 3s’ AI system is developed by Xiaomi’s own R&D team. This system is able to intelligently classify content and learn from the preferences of individual users, basically resulting in more personalized recommendations when it’s suggesting new content. This is especially relevant in China since Xiaomi has just struck a new content deal with Tencent Video, on top of the deals that it already has with iQiyi and Youku.

Under the hood, the new Mi TV 3s comes with a 64-bit Amlogic SoC (T968 and T966). Both is powered by a quad-core Cortex-A53 CPU running at 1.8GHz, a Mali-T830 GPU, with 2GB RAM and 8GB eMMC internal storage. Dual-band (2.4/5GHz) Wi-Fi is also onboard, but the 65-inch model additionally supports wireless AC and Bluetooth 4.1 (up to wireless N and Bluetooth 4.0 on the 55-inch model). You also get three HDMI 2.0a ports, which means the TVs will play nice with HDR-compatible source devices, like Samsung’s UBD-K8500 4K Blu-ray player.

And for what it’s worth, the 55-inch Mi TV 3s uses LG’s IPS panel, while the 65-inch model uses Samsung’s SVA panel. HDR, as well as Dolby and DTS hardware-level decoding are supported on both. 3D, however, isn’t supported.

At the same time, Xiaomi has updated its (ports + mainboard + soundbar) Mi TV bar, which is shipped together with the larger 65-inch Mi TV 3s. (In case you’re wondering, the ports for the 55-inch model are at the back of the TV.) Xiaomi is also offering an RMB 5,999 65-inch bundle that includes a subwoofer (upgraded too) and a pair of 5GHz wireless satellite surround speakers.

The Mi TV 3s (both 55 and 65-inch models) will go on sale on September 29 in China. The 65-inch, surround speaker bundle will be available in November, also in China.
