Audio-Technica ATH-DSR7BT wireless headphone review – pure hi-res audio

Many people think wireless means you have to compromise on audio quality but Audio-Technica have well and truly put that to bed with its new ATH-DSR7BT wireless headphones.

The Audio-Technica headphones include Pure Digital Drive technology which means they can deliver the full digital signal without a D/A (digital to analogue) conversion.

Under the hood are re-engineered 45mm True Motion Drivers with specially designed diaphragms to produce high-resolution sound.

The on-board chipset controls driver amplitude directly with digital input so no D/A converter is necessary.

This means it can receive Bluetooth wireless transmission from your mobile device and play it in all its glory.

Design-wise, the ATH-DSR7BT wireless headphones are built with quality and built for comfort.

It has a soft headband and memory foam ear cups covered in luxurious leather so they’re comfortable to wear for hours at a time.

The left ear cup is where you’ll find the main controls to look after the volume and to navigate your music.

There is also a tiny trackpad which allows listeners to play and pause the music with a touch.

You’ll find the on/off and Bluetooth pairing switch on the right ear cup.

It’s also possible to make and receive your calls thanks to the built-in microphone.

There is also NFC (near field communication) so you can pair compatible Bluetooth devices with a single touch.

The headphones can also remember the last eight Bluetooth devices it was paired with.

On the audio side the ATH-DSR7BT wireless headphones are simply brilliant.

Audiophiles will appreciate the exceptional quality you will hear.

The sound has a remarkable clarity yet with a full body and a richness you very rarely hear together.

And the bass was also perfect, not too heavy not to light – but just right.

The Audio Technica headphones are capable of Hi-Res Audio playback which is like 4K UHD for your ears.

It’s compatible with Qualcomm aptX HD, aptX, AAC and SPC codecs with wireless transmissions capable of a resolution of up to 24-bit/48kHz that comes True Motion Drivers with absolute purity.

There is no noise cancellation with these headphones but they still sound excellent thanks to the passive noise cancellation the ear cups provide.

A lot of other wireless headphones include a 3.5mm audio cable to give you the option to connect physically with a mobile device’s headphone jack if that’s your preference or when the battery runs out.

But you won’t get that with the Audio-Technica headphones – there is nowhere to connect a 3.5mm audio cable.

You won’t hear any complaints from us about that but some customers may prefer to have the 3.5mm audio cable option as a backup.

You can, however, connect the microUSB cable (which is also used for charging) to the USB port on your computer to listen to higher resolution music at up to 24-bit/96kHz

The on-board battery runs for an impressive 15 hours on a single charge and can last 1000’s hours on standby.

They also come with a leather carry pouch.

The Audio-Technica ATH-DSR7BT wireless headphones are available now and are priced at $599.

Yes, that’s a bit more expensive than other headphones on the market but then again not many headphones sound as good as these.

VERDICT

Put simply, the Audio-Technica ATH-DSR7BT wireless headphones are among the best we’ve ever heard and will satisfy even the fussiest listeners with their remarkable quality.
